For a small village, Hopkins offers some incredible dining experiences. While the village is tiny and, mostly a single dirt road that follows the curve of the beach there is a surprising variety of options, from Filipino to Local Belize dishes and, of course, more seafood options than you could devour if you had a month.
Barracuda is my favorite option in Hopkins. From their local wild boar dishes and spare ribs to the baked shrimp stuffed with smoked lobster you really can’t go wrong. The menu has a great variety and the staff is friendly with the ultimate, on the beach location.
#2. Bahay Fiesta
Having opened only in later 2015, this restaurant is still getting it’s groove but is definitely on the right track. The owners are ever-present and the food is incredible with extremely reasonable prices. Those who are familiar with the menu rave about the Chicken Adobo, a typical Filipino dish. Don’t make your decision without hearing what the day’s fresh daily catch is.
#4. Chef Rob’s Gourmet Cafe
Chef Rob’s is the best restaurant if you’re looking for something a little more upscale but not over the top. The restaurant uses only local ingredients, most of which come from within 30 miles of the restaurant location. The fresh, daily snapper dishes are incredibly well prepared. This is also your best option (within reason) if you’re looking for a good wine selection.
#5. The Curve Bar
The Curve bar is just outside of Hopkins in Stan Creek and is set apart in a small marina. The food, particularly the avocado with shrimp on fried plantains are unique and delicious. The conch fritters were perfectly cooked and make a great snack. The menu features local and standard fare options with an extremely relaxing atmosphere.
#6. Lucky Lobster
The lucky lobster might be the number one option if you’re just looking for drinks and/or an appetizer. The staff is the friendliest that you could hope for, really bringing forth the local Garifuna characteristics. Try the lobster tacos or the grilled lobster with twice baked potatoes. If you’re feeling adventurous ask for a Blue Dawn (named for the bar tender).
#7. Loggerheads Pub & Grille
Once you’ve had your fill of grilled lobster and fresh fish, head to Loggerheads for a burger. The have some unique creations like the cheeseburger stuffed with mac n cheese or gorgonzola stuffed burger. This is the epitome of bar food, as it’s pretty much a second floor wooden deck with a guy out front cooking your burgers on an outdoor grill. The also occasionally have live music in the evening.
