Provence is known for many things from food and wine to seaside villages and some incredible nature preserves. One of the big products coming this region is the lavender, as France is one of the world’d biggest producers of lavender products.
Lavender is used for a wide variety of products from soaps and oils to being used to treats burns and to prevent moths in your closets. There are Lavender museums throughout the region where you can learn about how it is produced and all of the various uses.
Driving through the region to see and smell the lavender fields is an experience all by itself. Ideally you want to see these fields in the summer when the lavender is really in bloom and is a bright blueish purple color rather than the duller colors shown in the photo here.
