Black Swan Country Club is located about 40 minutes from Boston and offers an extremely challenging course for those who are not highly skilled. With bunkers, hazards and water everywhere you look, this course is likely to be a bit frustrating for someone who’s not always hitting the ball straight or if you’re leaving it a few yards short here and there.
Quality of the golf course
The course is very well maintained, with the fairways and greens in very good condition. The greens are quite quick, which was surprising seeing that I played here after the area had a ton of rain for the two preceding days. The course is a par 72 at 6,803 with the expectation of finishing in 4 1/2 hours. View the scorecard.
The range is large and well laid out, as well as being affordable ($6 – $9 for buckets of balls). It is well kept so that you’re not constantly trying to find an area outside of a divot to hit from. The putting area is also large with some gentle gradients, making it a decent area for warming up.
At the turn
The bar at the Black Swan was fairly busy, once it opened at 11. There are not a whole lot of options for quickly grabbing a bite to eat at the turn and the drinks (beer, mixed drinks, coffee) are tiny.
