When traveling in Bangkok you should be expected to negotiate for pretty much everything. Transportation is often no exception to this rule unfortunately. Options for getting to and from the Suvarnabhumi Airport include buses, limos, taxis and train – it really comes down to timing and convenience.
Limos (and town cars labeled as limos) are the most expensive option and you should be sure to price out multiple options if you take this route. Expect that 700-800 baht would be around the typical rate to get to downtown Bangkok.
Taxis to downtown can be between 300-500 baht. Be sure that your taxi uses a meter and try to get estimates from multiple taxis before you leave the airport. If you are expecting to pay 500 baht, the taxi driver is likely to take a circuitous route to ensure that the meter says 490 baht even if you could have been there much sooner.
Buses to and from the airport are only 150 baht per person and they do service multiple areas of the city. Check bus routes to the BKK airport.
The newly built train also connects Bangkok city to the airport. The Direct Express Train takes 15 minutes from the City Air Terminal (Makkasan) train station and connects to the subway within the city. This option also allows passengers to check their bags at the terminal in the city so that they are not needed to carry them on the train and costs approximately 150 baht. Another options in the commuter train, which is slower, taking 30 minutes and making eight stops during it’s journey from the city and connects to both the subway and the skytrain. The commuter train costs between 15 and 45 baht, depending on where the passenger boards the train.
