Scuba diving in Koh Samui

Scuba diving is one of the biggest attractions on the island paradise of Koh Samui, Thailand. Although the area of the island is not as fantastic as the areas near by, there are numerous scuba diving companies that can take you via standard or speed boat to nearby areas where the diving is world class.

Koh Samui Scuba DivingKoh Tao is only about 1 hour away via speed boat and is well known for it’s multiple beaches and diving areas. Mango Bay, Light House ( Gluay Thoen Bay ) and Aow Leuk Bay are all popular areas for beginners. There are also areas with deeper depths for more experienced divers.

Sail Rock is another very popular scuba diving area within 45 minutes of Koh Samui. Sail Rock is well known for incredible sea life such as barracuda, batfish, jacks, and whale sharks. This rock, jutting 5 meters above the water’s surface, seemingly in the middle of no where, but is a haven for for a variety of species, making for an incredible dive site. Depths around Sail Rock reach as deep as 40 meters ( the maximum depth for recreational diving ). The dive site also features a vertical chimney which divers can enter at 18 meters below the surface and exit at 6 meters, making for a dramatic and memorable experience.

Because there are so many dive sites close by Koh Samui, you can stay on the island of Koh Samui, enjoying all that it has to offer, and still enjoy the diving areas within the area. There are many companies that can take any level of diver to these sites, including those that can provide the option to become certified for various levels of PADI scuba diving certification.

You may want to book a time for diving before getting to Koh Samui if you know what days and areas you want to dive.

SeaRobin Dive Center – a great option for becoming PADI certified at locations around Koh Samui. SeaRobin does not have it’s own boats, so diving is dependent upon availability with other companies on the island.

Coral Grand Divers – a great option if you are just looking for a fun dive, with speed boats leaving every morning at 8am for various dive sites around Koh Samui.

    Hi,

If you stay on Koh Tao and you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the westcoast (sairee beach etc.) check out Tanote Bay on the east coast of the Island. Quiet beach, nice corals and no partys at night.
For those of you who want to dive, there is also a friendly dive school named “Calypso”
