Located just outside of Charing Cross, a quick walk from Covent Garden, Bedford & Strand is very easy to miss, with a small sign notifying passersby of the French bistro located one level below the street. The lack of tourists adds to the ambiance, but the real reason for visiting is the incredible drinks and food, served by the friendliest staff in London.
The appetizer selection
The food at Bedford & Strand is fairly incredible with the appetizer and small bites being my favorite. You can order a cheese plate and go up to the counter to visually pick out which cheeses and meats you’d like to include in your farm house cheese borad or charcuterie board. The artisan cheese selections make for a perfect option for relaxing at the bar in small groups.
The menu at Bedford & Strand spans British and French favorites with items varying from slow roasted pork belly and shepherd’s pie to duck cassoulet and cote de boeuf. To start off you can also try some British favorites like smoked and cured salmon, oysters or the chicken and raisin parfait.
The drink list
The wine list changes regularly but is always sure to please any palette with a wide variety of wines available by glass, carafe or bottle. The bar is also stocked with a great selection of liquor, mostly top shelf but not over-priced.
The restaurant is below street level with a very welcoming bistro atmosphere. Due to the difficult and non-obvious location with minimal signage Bedford & Strand, despite it’s very central location, rarely has many tourists. The bar area melds into the dining area allowing a comfortable atmosphere for all.
