When looking for a spot in a beach town I want ocean views and a decent location. That sums up Zen Guest House.
I rented the Penthouse Apartment which is a large studio with two twin beds and a kitchenette area. There is a kitchenette area also outside of the apartment door. On the same floor is a bachelor-apartment which is essentially a hotel room. The penthouse is the only room with sea views.
The WiFi was good, they have cable and movie channels, the room was very clean and the views were awesome. The bathroom is spacious and it has a shower and a claw-foot bathtub with views of the ocean. A little bit of luxury at two-star prices.
There is a small, private deck with a table and chairs where you can see and hear the ocean. Waking up and seeing the waves, while being able to step out and have a coffee (they have a French press in the room) and checking out the view. It was perfect.
Location of Zen Guest House
You can walk to the beach in about ten minutes (SuperTubes beach). Similarly, there are a couple of restaurants, a super market and a liquor store that are less than a 10 minute walk away.
It is guest house so the owners do live downstairs and you can occasionally hear them. That makes it no different from a busy hotel, really. There are also a couple of dogs in the yard that seemed a little scary when I rang the bell at the gate, but after that one moment I didn’t hear from them again during my two-night stay.
I’d definitely recommend the Zen Guest House for the views alone. It is a little way away from the busier downtown area. If you prefer somewhere a little busier with more action, try to find somewhere close to the Kitchen Windows restaurant. That’s where the action is, but you may pay a premium for the location.
